  • Idling Problem on cabrio 1993 mk1

Just bought my first VW. Cool car-love it. Only problem right now is the idling.
She fluctuates around 1100rpm when warm. I can't find an adjustment and even so the speed is not constant. There is a loud hissing coming from around where the crank ventilator joins the rocker cover but checked for hose leaks and found none. When I press the micro-switch near the accelerator link pully (on the rocker cover) the speed becomes constant but the idling is still high. Car starts fine and so far doesn't stall while driving. Car is 5 speed manual. I'll go over it and double check but would appreciate any input on the subject.

    Hey,

There are a few places it could be, but you will probably need to do some reading. Here is a good place to start. 3. Troubleshooting

Vacuum leaks may be the issue.

Post us up some pics of the engine bay so it is clearer what your talking about.

    Mick.

if you press the wide open throttle switch on the accelerator mechanism, and it then idles smoothly, its a good sign the oxygen sensor is kaput.
