What is your Mk 1 for?

Hi everyone,

When I first got started with Mk1's they were still frequently seen out and about. Where have they all gone?? Are they on bocks at pickapart, in your garage being prepped for the track, do you only drive yours on the weekend or do you drive it daily? No doubt some of you have bought newer VW's. So if you're on this thread I assume you have or have had a Mk1. Whats yours for?

My Manky little Mk1 is my:

Daily driver
Club Vee Dub events car
The kids taxi
Trailer donkey
Track and skidpan mobile

The wife hates it, and...

It is a source of great pleasure for me. Love it!

Is there anything they cant do?

For the last 7 months ours has been towing a trailer back and forth the 300 kms to hamilton while i renovate my house. Back seat removed for extra haulage space. Always makes me smile when the 1.5D does the (metric) tonne.

My mk1 diesel cabrio is a backup daily/second car/weekend car -
My other mk1 is a resto/project
My other mk1 was a backup daily/resto/ute substitute before it ran out of rego... and now its a weekend car (SHHHHH!)

Stupid expensive restoration: 1976 Mk1 (2door, 16v)

Bought a newer VW and have become temporarily lost touch with how sensational my Mk1 is
