  • Fuel Pump Not Working

Well i have come across the problem that my fuel pump is no longer working.
I have a feeling it is an electrical problem.
This is the story, Fuel pump cuts out and car stalls within 1 km of driving. I thought it was out of fuel so added fuel but still no fuel pump.
I took it to the mechanic and he found a short circuited wire and a blown fuse. so we fixed those and the fuel pump was working, i drove it 30km home.
When i came to start it again 10 mins later.... no fuel pump again.

All the Fuses are intact and thats about all i know to check for!

What can I check and how do i know which wires in the engine bay to check?

Or can it be anything else?

Well you need to have a look at the fuse board/relay plate Anton, there are several items of wiring there that can cause problems for sure.

VW also ran a modified harness for the fuel pump relay, but it will all depend on how this conversion was done in the first instance as to what may need fixing bud.

Drop in and see me and I will get you a copy of the wiring diagrams, the haynes manuals are crap .

Have a look here for some information. The best thing to do is attempt to short the relay with the instructions in the trouble shooting section to see if it is infact that issue.

Fuel pump relay is the problem.

I always have a spare in the glove box.

Yes thanks for the help guys,
We looked at the fuel pump relay and i think it needs to be replaced as it doesnt hold contact after you start the car.
              Thats one of the probs...
But there may be a few other electrical issues. There is something intermittent thats wrong, like sometimes it starts fully but sometimes when i start it, i can give it about one rev before the engine very quickly dies.
Ill have another look tomorrow with the help of Golfwagen here in Perth.

Grant, im not sure if i have the modded harness as my fuel pump relay is wired up on the side.

Obviously learning a bit as i go along!
Thanks again, this is the only thing holding me back from rego now so should have some pics up soon.

Cool, See how you go, the actual circuitry for the k jet is fairly simple, wont take long to see if its ok or bodged.

                  Anton,

Your K-jet was retrofitted so original wiring diagram may not match what it is now. I have the factory VAG wiring book but I'm not selling it ( reserve for future project ), but I can scan you a few pages that are related to 76 model.

Sorry to hear your trouble, I've never come across these problem when I had the car.
