  • MK 1 Cabrio Battery questions...

    Hi All,

I've got a MK 1 93 Cabrio with a DEAD battery - not used the car for a few weeks and after jump starting last night and driving for a good 20 mins at 60k's + it still wouldn't start again - questions is:

I bought another battery a few months ago from autobarn for about 100 bucks but someone stole it from my carspace, i called up today and the lady said it would cost about 180 bucks!?which is a fair bit more - whats a fair price for a battery these days?

Also does anyone know the type / code of the type of battery i need, i thought it was just a normal 12v thingy

    Any help is much appreciated

You should be able to go to repco/autobahn/etc and they'll have the books which have got which batteries fit in which car etc etc.

I went for the 'biggest' one i could, it was a 550CCA battery, and I never had an issue with it. It got ran flat and undercharged a number of times, but kept on going strong. cost around the $180 (2 years ago sorry) mark (it was a 'performance' battery) but you should be able to get one for about that, if not a bit less.

mate battery died in my 93 cabrio last year and RACV charged me $99 delivered and installed for members. 440CCA but enough to run it. Check this out. It replaced an RACQ one the car came with in 2006 and was date stamped 2004. Don't know what the cost is for non-members but they do it all for you and they will also check for earth leaks when they install the new battery and the charge rate from the alternator.
