I don't like the Mk1 standard steering wheel, also don't like those aftermarket racer type. The Mk2 s/w is my favourite, can it be fitted into Mk1 without modification ?

Early Mk2 have the smaller diameter sterring wheel hole, whilst later ones have a bigger hole and will need a splined shim, such as is found in Mk3s and SEATs. All the later wheels will fit, but will need the shim.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

I'm having fun
GolfLoon showed me his Mk1 with the 4 button Gti S/W, but I just couldn't work out why I can not fit a Mk2 s/w into my Mk1. Until I read the Haynes manual and notice this difference.
Up to 76 Golf has this steering column switch with the S shape indicator. The corner of the steering switch touch the base of the steering wheel.
.
But later model (after 76) do not have this problem. Do you guy think I can fit a 77 onward steering column switch into a 76 Golf ??

well if you're handy with an angle grinder and welder, I can't see why you couldn't just modify it to suit; have it coming straight out etc - OR - get a later model indicator stalk and tac it on? This should be less work than changing a steering column over maybe? I donno, just my 13 and a half cents
oooh - Then you could say it's custom, which is always cool...
