      Yes GLI's were the cabrio version of the GTI. The car has the heron head 1.6 engine with K Jet, the vented front brakes and the front and rear sway bars like the GTI. It also has the close ratio 5 speed box. In the later years VW did have a cabrio GTI 1.8......

        there were also GLI two and four doors

        Two members on here have them! (16V kid and Sypda, respectivly)

                GLI over here. Private import. Had the original 1.6 EG Heron motor. Later we installed a 288deg Schrick cam and went pretty strong for a 1.6

                Now its undergoing a makeover. (:

                    Sorry to bring topic up but...can any one confirm a GLi came as a 2door? As far as I am concerned they were only cabrio's.

                    Does anybody have any information regarding GLI's? I'm trying to find the identity of our '79er.

                    Also, has anybody came across a mk1 colour code K6V? Riverblue?

                      rabbits were US models, you'd be better off looking up european models. Spyda has a 4 door GLI, so they weren't cabby's only.
