Hi all. Wondering if anybody has come across this problem and may know the fix. I've swaped the complete loom from one car to another. When I turn on the ign switch the heated rear window relay activates even though the switch for the heated rear window is turned off. If I remove the relay from the fuse board the wipers and the heater fan will not work. The area around the fuse for the heated rear window has been very hot and had melted the area around it so I reckon it's been an issue for a while in the car which I've taken the loom out of. I have replaced the fuse box with another identical one. I have tried another relay. Still happens with the heated rear window switch disconnected. It appears that power to the wipers and heater fan is being supplied through the heated rear window circut. Has anybody come across this issue before. ...... Cheers ..... Geoff

Geoff, sounds like you have incompatible wiring, did the replacement harness come from a vehicle of the same year of production ?, and were the relay / fuse blocks the same version ??
The 76 model year stuff has quite a few different wiring connections compared to the 77 and latter versions, The early fuse blocks are an A designation then the latter ones are B or C.

You may need a correct diagram for your year model and then re arrange some of the pin locations in the harness to relay plate connectors .

Yeah, had to do this when upgrading a mates 76 a few years ago... right pia.

still got your leckky window stuff here too...err thats right, i was going to get pics...
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,

Hi Grant ...... I've swapped the complete loom and fuse block from a 1 / 78 car ( ex Jarred Viper Green ) and by looking at the fuse block it had the problem in that car so I've just tranfered the problem from one car to another. I've changed the fuse block for one with the same B desingation and I still have the problem.
Think I'll have to do some serious circut tracing. It's in the Autocross car we're putting together so for now I've just disconnect the heated rear window so it's not drawing lots of amps through that circut. Send me a PM about the electric window stuff. No need for photos. Cheers ..... Geoff
