Buy a second hand MK3/Cordoba 1800 and be happy.

Everything just bolts up and they go like stink.

Best bang for your buck going.

this topic has been covered many times. before you go asking all these questions of how and what and how much, have a bit of a poke around the mk 1 forum. there's litterally HEAPS of threads covering this very topic, all the info is already there for the taking!

Whats wrong with the engine in the yellow golf?
Ran beautiful when i ran it.

Just put around with that and save for a mild 1800, they go like stink as pete said!!

she's running on 3 not 4 cylinders, the brake cylinders turned up today for my other mk1, so im using that atm, doing the yellow one up.

its been pressure tested, but its easy fix cobba, bar that today on my day of iv taken rear bumper off for a clean up, the car is going to the painters in the next few weeks so i ay rebuild the engine nd make it look nice.
