  • Mk1 Rear Window Wash/Wipe

    Hi

Does anyone know why the european Mk1's got a rear window wash/wipe standard and we only had a handful with this fitted?

I saw a Mexican beige GLD in Brisbane in the 80's that had this setup but not many more since then

Most of the ones I've seen on the early mk1's were a dealer fit option & not a standard fit.

It may have had something to do with parts availability or to keep prices down or even avoid different tax brackets.

I know Saab used this technique in the early days & the cars were delivered to OZ without radios fitted & came in under a different tax bracket which in turn could be sold cheaper.

The radios would arrive via the parts system at the dealers at roughly the same time the cars were delivered & then the dealer would fit them.
