Have a look at JustCar insurance. It's a company owned by AAMI and they allow for unlimited modifications to your car with pretty much no extra fee. It's also much cheaper for younger drivers than most insurance companies which is good for me.

Third party fire and theft was around $360 and full comprehensive was around $1200 I think. And that was for me being 18.

    Edit:
Link if you want it - you can usually get an instant quote online: http://www.justcarinsurance.com.au/

      give them a go,

the thing with shannons is that if you get a prick on the other end of the line then you're screwed. wether or not they insure you depends on the person on the phone.

i was very lucky as i got a torana nut. i was 21 and told him i just bought a torry with a 350hp injected v8, drop tank 5 speed etc. he said we wouldnt normally but....and i had insurance.

luck of the draw. be lucky!

Pics would quite literally make my day.
PM me if you'd like/can be bothered.

I tried JustCar, $1800 for comprehensive, $408 for third party and I didn't notice a fire and theft option.

We had the R34 (yes another skyline) insured with justcar and they were really good, someone t-boned matt and there were no worries with claims etc... $408 in your situation sounds pretty reasonable...

Shannons do mine (and has done many in the past) only 'cause my Cabby is an import and most companies won't insure because an '85 import is not on their database (and all imports are dangerous and fast R32 GTR's !!)

They have since been cool about me declaring the worked motor/extractors etc...without charging me extra, but I've got age on my side Jace, which is probably about a few good years on you (even if you own an ol'man W108...hehehe)

I called aami and they would do my car for about $1000 a yr plus $400ex plus another $400 for being under 25. They would also insure the car for $2500 which was good but they would only cover $300 worth of my sterio. I dunno how it works but if it makes a difference ive had one accident with them, live in a ****ty postcode and 20yrs old and have had a couple of speeding fines.
I tryed justcars and they can go jump off a cliff! First they tell me they will cover all legal mods.....but later tell me they wont do the sterio as its worth more than the car, wanted $1600 plus $400ex and would only insure the car for $1900.
Havnt tryed shannos i didnt think they took under 25yr olds.

I went third party on the old mk1 with youi - cannot remember the premium but was cheap.

The green machine is agreed value with Shannons, but we have 2 car on policy so it is cheaper than if there were only the one.

Never had to claim on either, so am unsure on how good either is.

My GTR is stock as a rock... Has an airbag (well i think it does - haven't had to find out yet) ,that makes it safe right?

Really? I guess the details make a difference, things like having an alarm, immobiliser. Not really sure on that one though.

Shannons have done mine for years. Its cheaper if you have one classic car and a daily with them.
Ring up and speak to a person, say you are an enthusiast and in the vw club and they will be sweet.
You can ring up 24 hours and change the policy if you want
I just made my first claim with shannons and there was a bit of messing about but it went through quick and they paid the agreed value.
I just renewed with a more expensive car and was told I was 2 years and 10 months constantly insured and that at 3 years it would have been a protected NCD. Then without much prompting, they gave it to me and the cheap premium that resulted. Hoorah for Shannons.
I`m over 30 and live in the sticks, so that helps, plus you need to say you have the car in a garage at night.

My post code should really help me out I would've thought. A few other things working against that I suppose.

Mark my 250S makes me early thirties, and once I'm off my P-plates I'll be about 55-60.

I guess I'll just have to shop around.
Might give iSelect a go, just for comparing policies am I right?

Shannons sure sound like they do it well, but I think they simply won't insure me because I've lost my license in the last 5 years. They say they won't give an online estimate for that reason, but I think I called them up once and they just said nope.
I'll try them again properly I suppose.

justcars tried to charge us double last year, when we shifted from temporary accom. in Sth. Morang to Brighton ...now that Nthn. suburb sometimes comes up as still being in the country...but don't you reckon someones more likely to steal a 7 y.o Subaru up there, than in Brighton???...good luck I say anywhere, as these car's have always been a bugger to break-into, except breaking the glass.....
