  • Mk1 Autocross Car Build.

So, Considering dad doesn't know how to upload photos onto this site, i thought id come back on and do it for him (and explain what were actually doing).

    FROM THE START

So, for those of you who don't know, this is my mk1 road car
( i do usually run the grille i was just doing something to it)

i also own a mk1 (white) 2 door that we just had a complete cage put into. We're going to build it up, (put a 1.8 engine in it, webers, extractors) so that i can rally it sometime next year.
    see pic below

We were a bit unsure what to do, because i defeintely wanted to get in some practice before i do my first rally next year. So Dad and i decided that we would build up another mk1 we bought not too long ago, the body is in pretty good conidtion considering its a golf. There are only two small rustholes underneith the carpet on the drivers side door, and the pillars may need some attention in the future aswell.(see pic below)

Were currently taking the engine out of this mk1, because the one in the yellow car blows a little bit of smoke and has a slipping clutch. The engine in this viper green seems to run well and has had a reco at some point. (see below)

So this engine and gearbox is going to be put into the autocross car, and we are getting a bolt in half cage put in it too. Car will be pretty standard apart from suspension and a sidedraft weber. It'll still have a passenger seat and most of the interior, but will have a velo and harness's for the driver. we're going to put "classic Historic" reg on it so its still driveable on the road ( but has some limitations of course) Its going to be something good to practice in and flog the guts out of... and while i'm doing autocross in that, it'll give dad & i time to build up my rally car properly.

Ill try and keep everyone updated on it..!

I love people getting in and getting on with making something of these old cars. Respect, I'm not allowed more than one mk1 at a time sadly...

I had to laugh Rach. at seeing the Vipergreen car...I looked at this car last year, prior to Jarred acquiring it, and am the guilty one who broke the VW emblem on the grille (can't remember how..it was a dark & cold night on the side of the road in Canterbury....!!!)
