  • Mk1 Colour Schemes

Well I've been thinking of having a kind of colour scheme for my Golf. I like the idea of having a racing sort of colour scheme similar to maybe this:

    Gulf colour scheme:

    Or maybe similar to this:

Also like the Porsche colour schemes:

Let me know what you all think about the idea and post up any colour schemes that you think might look good on a Mk1. Just toying with the idea at the moment but think it might be pretty cool if I got it right.

I'm yet to really see a mk1 that has "porsche" inspired paint schemes that look any good.

Mk1's don't have the same sort of profile or roundness/curvyness of a Porsche.

If I was looking into something like this, I'd stick to the blocky style designs of the late 70's/80s etc. which suit the shape/profile of the car

I threw the Audis in there, as they are also shaped like biscuit tins!

But if you like it, go for it. Its your car after all.

The dark brown porsche with the red details looks great! If you get a dark colour and get all the details on the golf red, i think that would be really eye catching.

Or go for a white with black look. Either would look really good, but i still go for black/red! Just my 2c

That "76" (Fuel stations) Mk1 with moon discs in the US looks good. But really it's all up to you dude.

I like the Gulf and Martini schemes, but the Mk1 doesn't have the flowing lines to suit it. You really need sharper lines in the design like some of the stuff Tim posted for it to look any good.. Just my opinion.

Thanks guys, interesting to hear everyone's opinions. Love all the posted race car liveries.

                  Found that Gulf Mk1:

I actually think it looks really good. As most people were saying; the Mk1 isn't very smooth and it needs paint that matches its more blocky style, but this car has it pulled off I reckon as the owner has given it a newer and smoother look (with the badgeless grill, no bumpers, widened arches etc).

I like the idea of doing something this, was thinking of doing something like the GT3 RS i.e. just having a solid colour and having the wheels a contrasting colour and with a matching sticker going across the side of the car saying "GOLF MK1" or something instead of "GT3 RS". Also would love to run it without bumpers.

Still not sure but think that last idea might not intrude too much on the Mk1s less streamline shape. Ahh so many options.

Ok well they don't look too bad.. But notice that the lines are sharper than the schemes on the Porsches?
