Been in this position a few times playing about with mates cars, like corollas, accords, renaults and magnas and stuff.
After much swearing, busted knuckles and pipe work I bought a Shinano 3/4" drive impact driver
which has never failed to remove anything (keeping the nut perfectly intact). Its also important to be using the right socket too. Using impact sockets (definately not multifit from a regular socket set!) that are specifically shaped for the nut at hand make getting the grunt to the nut surfaces less likely to slip, or damage anything.
