  • Why won't you rev!

I think I have found the answer - Auxiliary Air Valve. Starting on cooler mornings my 93 Cabriolet starts first time, however it idles far to low. Only 500 odd RPM's with the alternator light glowing red, engine shaking and sounding "Cheap" until additional throttle input is added. this can also cause the engine to stall if not careful.

My question is, can the Air Valve/Regulator be repaired or cleaned? There is twelve volts of power to the unit, however it's always stuck at 96% closed. Engine hot or cold.

    Many thanks Michael

You could try & clean it out, but if its stuck, it could also be a broken bi-metallic spring too.

Try cleaning it, but there are like Warm up reg's. Once they stuff up, its a replacement item.

As Tim has suggested, carb cleaner spray down the hole and give it a good shake ( whilst holding fingers over the ends) then flush it out again... or a new one
      Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

      Cheers,
      Grant...

If it is digifant (and I have no idea what engine it is) check for air leaks between the maf and the throttle body.

Yip, good old 1.8 ltr "JH" engine, fitted with Bosch Continuous Injection System.

No luck with cleaning it. The valve always remains almost closed.

Lucky it's Easter - Which means Supercheap and Autobarn will be having their catalog sales. Hopefully they will have a special on 17 year old Bosch auxiliary air regulators. Maybe a "Two for twice the price of one deal".

If anyone has a working one for sale, I'm interested.

                Many thanks Michael

Sorry, I thought it was a later model Cab.

All the best with the sale price regs at Supercheap!

there are no mk 2 cab's Mik! Only mk 1 cabs with 1.8 Kjet (and of course earlier ones too, without the klipper kit, sometimes carb'd etc) and then it goes straight to the mk 3 Cab.

This is a 'late model' cab as it were.

We'll I've learnt something. So later model MKI cab was being produced at that same time as the MKII. There was no MKIV cab either, but only a MKIII.5?

Sorry for my thread hijacking here, but I am here to learn also.
