  • 8V spark Plugs

Just wondering what plugs people run

Atm i Got NGK ones, BP6EY? i think
Engine is a 1.8L stock, with extractors and 2" exhaust

Checking the plugs against the guide in the Haynes manual it says my Plug is Overheating due to either Low Octane Fuel, Ignition timing, or weak fuel mixture. Tip is a Light brown colour, and some of the white bit in center is light brown and white.

Carby is a stock 1.6L one and ran fine on the 1.6L. is going to a 1.8L making it run lean? going to double check timing when i get hold of a light, and will fill up with a fresh tank of Unleaded. (surely it wouldn't need premium?)

    Any tips be great

I use the same ones they run in 20VT's, just what my VW mechanic gave me..

    They're 4 prong ones.

I have had problems with "high end" multi pronged spark plugs in the past. I never had any broblem with the standard single prong bosch ones that are listed in the book at supercheap.

i think its something like WDxx7 orsomething, haha.

We ended up getting some 3 prong KGL or KLG plugs from supercheap, it was like $10 for a set of 4 (this $$ figure may not be 100% correct as this was a while ago, but its heaps less than the big name plugs).
i just got them to get the car running correctly. they have been great plugs and i would def recommend them and will get them again when i need plugs.
If you want the model number i can check tonight.

I've used the bosch ones (listed in the book at supercheap etc) without trouble before as well. I just use the 4 prong ones now.

single prong ones are fine for an 8v. Multiprong can be an overkill and do more harm than good.

                        Nice Pete.

Reminds me of mine after a long period of tuning the turbo. But mine melted away the electrode!

I've use to always run my 8V with either

                        Bosch Super 4 WR78X or
                        Beru UltraX UX79

& had never had any problem with them lasting the 20+K service intervals.

But now with the turbo setup I just run the standard issue 20VT plugs for high HP applications which are

                        NGK BKR7?? gapped to 0.28"
