  • mk1 2 door VS mk1 4 door...

    Hey guys,

everyone i seem to talk to want 2 doors... i don't really understand why.

is it just the look and style of a 2 door or are they ACTUALLY better?

do 2 doors only have 2 seats?

    Peace

2 doors are 5 seaters too.

basically the same car, same size everything.

basically just comes down to looks and/or practicality.

GTI was also only ever 2 door

2 door everything is more appealing because of looks.
'Coupe' suggests performance or sportyness I guess, hence why 2-door Escorts, Golfs, Skylines, etc. etc. are more sort after.

its all personal taste. 4 doors can look just as good if not better than 2 doors in every car 4doors are for pimping

The extra 2 doors put more weight, that's why sporty version of any cars are 2 doors.

its true... but in the mk1 golfs case its not a lot - only the difference between being fat or not fat for the driver...

now me, i'm fat and have a 4 door, so thats more disadvantage - however diesel torque is good for getting fat loads moving

But aren't 2-doors and 4-doors basically the same weight? Like hardly any difference?
But I guess every ounce counts.

i personally think the 2 doors look odd on a 3/4 profile... the door looks too big and somethings missing on the rear quarter

Well Jarred actually in the very early days there were a couple of 4 door GTi's made so in truth no, GTi's were not strictly only 2 doors. As for weight yes the four door model with side intrusion panels in the doors do weigh about 20kg more than a two door but if you put early model doors without the intrusion bars the weight is a little bit less. On the downside without side intrusion bars in an accident it ain't gonna be pretty for the occupents if the hit is in the door. I'm with Dom on the looks too from 3/4 it looks like something is missing from the shape

I was going for greater percentages. Most GTI's were 2 doors, and we're very popular. I reckon lots of people (back in the day) would have aspired to have GTI's, and would have bought 2 doors to do up as GTI's if they couldn't afford a real one etc. Thats the point i was trying to get at

+ 1 for lack of practicality. 2 doors ftw...?

i think the lack of an extra 2 doors make them look even smaller.

That's just something people with small doors say

I would've definitely chosen 2-door>4-door if K's and condition was the same.
