  • Lowering my mk1

    Gday all,
i want to lower my mk1 and i want it done legally, how is the best way to do it???

    Lowered springs or coil overs.

Cup kits (Lower springs and uprated shocks)

    Coilovers (Height adjustable suspension)

Do a search or PM Evorobin regarding Hottunning suspension. He is the Aussie dealer.

coilovers mate, look up evorobin on here, he is the Aust agent for hot tuning coil overs and i have heard his prices are pretty good, other wise try and find some aftermarket springs (prob harder) but please DO NOT CUT YOUR SPRINGS!!!!!!

Nah, there's no-brand ones up there. Searched through a few pages, think there was a set for AUD$278 +shipping. Not Hottuning or JOM.

i bought my set off ebay... guy from veedubmachine has lesbray as a user name. has suspension for all models by the looks of things. works out cheaper than i got them if you go straight through his web site instead of ebay. wish i had of known that beforehand!

whats wrong with cutting coils if you have shorter shocks? (not being smart ass generally wanting to know)

Having shorter springs is fine (and legal) as long as the spring is secure between the strut seats (top and bottom) when the suspension is at full droop. This generally doesn't give a low enough 'stance' for most people, although would be more than suitable for a daily driver.

There are ways to combat having a spring that doesn't seat properly. Some say it's safe, so say it isn't. it's probably illegal in most states (or unroadworthy) to have springs that aren't secure.

                              oh ok cool.

just say you were lowering a mk1 (or ay car for that matter) and putting some wide banded 16" wheels (say like 8.5 " bands) how do you work out how low you can go? do you just snip and check.. and snip and check? or is there a method? or is it simple math?

hahaha i'm totally gonna become a "no experience know it all" through these forums! XD
