  • brake light switch blown again

any ideas why i could be having troubles with my break light switches? what could be making them blow? they keep on breaking. it is the one connected to the side of the master cylinder.

They have 2 on from the factory because they are rubbish.

Get an aftermarket switch from a car faction place and make a bracket to mount it above the brake pedal.

Then it will never break again

I'd check to see if it's running through a relay (that's the standard setup right?), someone could've messed with it over the years...

        yeah, good call.

I was thinking of rigging up a simple 'push-to-make' switch on the pedal.. D*ck Smiths/Tandy don't have them though, probably pick 'em up at Jaycar I'd reckon.

Loon, would that do the trick or not good enough a switch to be a long lasting solution?

Supercheap have a good selection of brake light switches that can easily be adapted into a MK1.

upgrade the booster and master cyl while you're at it!

the hardest bit is the brake light switch anyways!

Bringing topic up, I bought a MK3 Brake switch which looks to do the job fine.

Has 2 pins on it to wire to, its a little chunky ish so mounting it might be a little hard, but it seems to rest nicely under bracket for the pedal stop.

Will get pics soon as im putting new booster and MC in next week

I remember you had some pics on how you did it, they still around?

I have to do the same thing, my lights work only when they fell like it.

                    Thread revival!!

Anyone know if you have to bleed brakes when replacing the brake light switch (the one on the side of the master cylinder)?

I know Spyda has written an awesome write up on putting in a switch, but I'd prefer not to drill and rewire if I can.
