hey all looking at getting a mk1 GLDbut worried about a few issues with it.

-how reliable are the fuel injection system , ive got a bit of a concern as to how much it would cost to replace one especially the pumps.
-how reliable are the 1.5 diesel donks?

and any other usefulinfo would be good and much appreciated as i could be purchasing this within the next couple of days.

if the injection pump isn't leaking, it'll probably out last the car.

Glds tend to occasionally do headgaskets, which often can crack the head & can be hard/expensive to repair.

The injection pumps aren't cheap items to get reconditioned/replace with new. a 2nd handy shouldn't be too expensive, if you can find out.

They also tend to wear out rings as well. this will be evident by blue smoke out the exhaust.

i've had mine for about a year now, and the only thing I've done is replace the glowplug relay. I've had no other issue with it.

And yes, they're slow. not catastrophically, but you'll notice it

mate, i reckon just get it and dont worry too much about the costs. mine has done 270,000 k's on the original engine and still runs fine. most diesels last forever. if anything major goes wrong with the engine, most people just say, bang a 1.6 in it. heaps of people even give them away, even if you gotta buy an engine they arent that expensive. there is enough people on the forum here to help you do most repairs on them yourself, so it would only ever cost you the parts. the power isnt that bad, mine braapps around just fine. thats only my theory anyway....... now go and save the little diesel engine NOW!!!

Yea they're rocking little cars. should something go wrong with the engine there are always plenty of options.

they're good fun though. I've really enjoyed mine, and dont at all regret buying it.
