I'm considering buying a 2 door, '77 golf mark1, 1.6 there are things I need to know;
-Were are they likely to have rust spots?
-Whats a reasonable price?
-How reliable are they?

check for rust in the front pillars, under the drivers side and passenger side carpets and sound deadening, and under the spare wheel well, also under the roof gutters.

my mk1 was super reliable, but check out the "what did you fix replace on your mk1" thread and you'll see that not all of them are quite as fun haha. if you get one that hasnt been too hacked about you should be ok

price obviously depends on condition, and how much you want one. say around 1k for a decent one, 3k+ for one that looks like its just rolled out of the showroom

dont forget the odometer tends to die in Mk1's, so it might have more Kays then it lets on.
Check for a tampered with Fuse box, sign of electric problems. might have been fixed properly, or a hack job.

Price, as Dan said it all depends on conditon, what it comes with, ect ect.

I paid 2k for mine, stock minus 15's and some interior bits. but it did come with a spare 1800 engine,twin carbs, ect rims, seats ect. so it was a decent deal.

Do you guys know of any places and/or people that sell original radio's?
(The guy that i'm looking at buying the golf off has taken it out, and i want one)
