  • Price Question

Looking for some advice please folks

What should I expect to pay for a '78 Mk1 3 door Gls 1.3? 164k kms, original interior, rust free but requiring rwc.

I'm new to VW's so trying to find my feet price wise.

    All help appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Blondie

    GLS 1.3???

All Oz delivered ones were 1.6

however, if its all original, MINT condition and I meen mint, then you can pay up to $5k.

A nicer condition one, rust free, will go for 1-3k... but it all depends what you want to pay and what they are asking Hope this helps!

I tend to agree. it's pretty hard to put a price on a car this old, as nearly every one is different nowadays, which means it's often hard to find an 'average' price they go for.

In my opinion, if you can afford, and can find a nicer cleaner example, it's much better to start off with one of them, than a cheaper rusty more worn example.

      hope this helps.

Re: 1.3. It's probably a 1.6 if it was aussie delievered, if you can show us a photo of a the engine bay, we'll be able to confirm it though.

There was a handfull of Aussie delivered 1.3s. Havent seen on for a long time though. Most got convereted to 1.6 quick smart.

Most standard Mk1s are worth $1000 IMO.

          Thats right.

MK1s arn't really worth anything if you look at it as a car. Its just what people pay for them.

                Thanks for the help fellas!

I suppose while I'm asking questions, is there anything crucial I should be looking out for? Obviously I know about rust, and general wear and tear on body and interior but anything Mk1 specific?

                  The dash cracks alot.

And, the doorcards tend to have holes in em to hold speakers.

Seats also, they tend to rip.

I paid 2k for a standard 4 door, but it did come with 3 sets of rims, a rebuilt 1.8L engine ect ect.

as others said, its worth as much as someone is willing to pay.
Just cant belive they worth less then ya average KE30/55/70 corolla and they are bloody everywhere

I'll be picking it up next week so I can get some pics up then.

Once thats done, I can start planning the transformation or should that be we can?

As I said before, all help and tips are appreciated!

                            Thanks folks!

depends what route you want to take it, wether you want to resto it to standard, restore & improve it, or just all out modify it. Also depends on budget, time and skills.

What ever route you want to take, there will always be plenty of advice here
