I have a 76' 2 door LS. it is currently running a 1.6L Carbi 4speed and even though it still runs i think it needs either fixing, rebuilding or replacing as it does not run very well with white smoke trailaing behind it.
I have been told that it is possible to get an engine out of the MK3. Possible the older 2E engines with less wiring and electricals. My question is what would be better and maybe a better performance upgrade. Whether it being 1.8L out of an MK3, rebuilding my own engine and just adding a 5 speed, getting an engine imported from South Africa as i have relatives there so it would be easy or to try get my hands on the 16V 1.8L engines that everyone talks about. Have in mind i have to put in a new wiring loom for the ECU and everything else that comes in with a Fuel Injected engine.
I live im Melbourne and have been ringing up and looking alot and have come with some few conclusions although a bit more help would be better to me. I am a bit financially limited for this moment as i have spent most of my money getting my MK1 back to the way i want. But any help or directions or where to go or what to get what be MUCH apreciated.
thanks.
