  • possible 2 door coming my way

well if i can convince the missus, there is a chance of this 2 door below coming my way in the next couple of weeks. the guy is wanting $1,500 for it, which is probably a little expensive, but it looks pretty straight in the pics. can anyone help me with the rims? are they GTI rims?

this is what i have been told about the car so far:
"It's a '77 (i think) 1600 4sp, I am the 3rd owner, everything works except the heater which I removed one VERY hot summers day... engine is a bit smoky on start-up but is fine after that... It starts first go and drives A1 no rust, all panels very straight, black interior. I had front + rear suspension replaced when I got it, new windscreen then too (have had car about 3 years or so). Would need a wheel balance & new tires for RW - and a steam clean prob wouldn't go astray... MK1 rims (4) are up for grabs as well. Also have a set of 14inch mags with good tires - one brand new..."

havent seen it in person yet so i cant wait to get up close and really check it out.

    here are some pics

    I wouldn't pay 1500 for it. but I'm a tight arse

imo, anything over 1G, you want to be pretty much rust free. So if it is as clean, straight and rust free as he claims, it could be worth the 1500. Interior didn't look anything special, but it's all replacable as is the engine. A great shell is always a great start for a good project!

Rims are Scala's. american GTI wheels. 14x6 I believe.

Starts first go? I'd pay a $500K for that. And I'd pay a million for one that starts full stop.

i would pay 1500 no problem..unless you happen to like the worst job involved with having a 70's car.

Always hard to tell from the pics but I reckon you would be kicking yourself if you didnt pick that up for $1500....

not too many left that are as straight as that

          good luck

i agree! plus it has a black interior..much better than brown. and how could you let those seatcovers slip away!

seriously tho, this is a rare find. i biggest regret about my project was starting with a car that had had a couple of big hits. just looking at those straight german bumpers WITH endcaps almost makes me cry..

ha, nah mate they will be definately staying on the car i think, but would be worth asking me again if i get the car. turns out the guy has another 2 thats he wants to get rid of, a 2 door and a 4 door. they are more for parts or a major project by the sounds of things. will see if i can get some pics of the others and prices.

Well it's definitely a 2-door and that in itself makes it worth more to some. Looks pretty clean and straight and original. And as someone said, not too many around these days. Looks a lot like my '76; I paid nearly double what they're asking for this but it was possibly cleaner etc but who knows.

                      I vote: go for it.

talk about a 4 door. Someone paid mine $2500! And, it wasn't far condition like this one.

                              a rust-free 2 door is worth $1500 IMO.
it looks tidy and as said above you'll kick yourself if you don't pick it up.
i paid $3k for my old mk1 and it was not nearly that tidy
