      • You know you drive a Mk1 ('78 GLS) when...

...you have to roll down the windows even in winter because the heat blowing through the engine makes the car so bloody hot...

...you hate your soft suspension because although you beat most cars through corners it feels like you’re going to roll...

...you love your soft suspension because you can go over speed bumps twice as fast as anyone else...

...the whole steering wheel moves when you put the clutch in...

...you have to clear the fuel line because it gets blocked at least once a week...

...you have to keep on reasurring your passengers that the loose wires aren’t (that) dangerous...

...you get even more angry because the horn isn’t loud enough and the lights not bright enough to flash or beep someone...

...you love telling people about how your car has a starter button...

...you white car is actually more rust coloured than white...

...you keep people entertained at parties with stories of what's gone wrong with it - and thats one of the reasons you love it...

          That is pure GOLD!!!!

All of my mk1's have done this. Probably due to the very heavy performance clutch.

Are you talking about my GTI or the one you used to have???

Because mine was written off over a month ago & it doesn't look that solid anymore unfortunately.

                    • You know you drive a mk1 when your headlights are pitched so in angle high due to the age and condition of the car that even on normal headlights you blind the drivers in front and have the lane all to yourself, all the time

That was on a B1 passat anyway...
