  • Fuel and Temp. Gauges stopped working.

I have a 1987 1.6 litre carb-engined Cabriolet. I drove the car several times yesterday and the fuel and temp. gauges were working fine. I got into it to drive it home yesterday afternoon and both gauges remained in the off position. I don't own any kind of manual for the car (we've only owned it for about six weeks) but I did all kinds of research on the 'net. I'm assuming that the problem is related to fuses but there are two issues with this. Firstly, none of the stuff I can find lists fuel or temp. gauges in the list of fuses, and, secondly, after laboriously removing each fuse one after the other (wow, these cars have a lot of fuses!) I couldn't find any fuses that looked blown, but the non-functioning gauge problem remains. Has anybody had a similar problem and can anyone suggest a fix, thanks, David Hynd.

Sounds like the 3 pin voltage regulator behind the cluster has failed.

Auto electricians can usually source them.

Thanks for the advice, Pete. I'll get it to an auto electrician and at least I can hopefully point them in the right direction. I suppose that after 23 years of service I can't really complain too much that it's failed. I owned a Triumph 2500TC years ago and some electrical component or other would fail about every other week. If you put the car into reverse while the rear window demister was on it would blow three fuses in one go. Lucas, prince of darkness......
