  • Mk1 GLi ?

Hi all, fairly new to da scene, still learning.

I bout a 1979 GLi 4door a couple of years ago for my first car (still in the gurage waiting for the primer to be sanded )

I've been looking around and there seems to be no information on a mk1 Golf GLi. I cant find anything from 1979 with injection and 4doors.

Can some one help me out here? Is this a rare golf or something?

So far all i know is that is '79, 1.6L (not even 100% on that), injection, automatic, 4doors and made in germany. Ive got a manual book but it doesnt say anything about GLi.

    Just wana get some knowledge.

I have not heard of a GLi except in cabriolet form.

Germany got a 4 door GTI I believe. Has to be 1600 pre 83 model year. Engine code probably EG unless it has had a transplant.

Top hose exits head between plugs 1 and 2.

Does it have an Australian compliance plate with ADRs listed?

On a 1600 motor the top hose to the radiator leaves the head between plugs 1 and 2 counting from the left(timing belt end). The 1800 engine has the top hose leaving between plugs 3 and 4.

The 1600 comes out at about 45 degrees and the 1800 is perpendicular to the head.

Photos are always going to get an accurate response. Personally I reckon someone built it up.

Heres some pics before I striped it:

            And the engine:

The head number thingo is 049103373 2BR, Brazil, not germany. Is that a bad thing?

The intake manafold says 079133223 Germany......

One guy once told me to be thankfull it wasnt made in southafrica and that it was made in germany.....but its not german either.

That's a 1600 engine for sure. The engine number is on the block behind the dissy. It should probably start with EG.........

The other numbers you posted are the part numbers.

It looks like it might have some emissions equipment on it, as there is a couple of things I don't recognise from a UK engine.

Its got air con, could that be the things you dont recognise from UK engines?

By dissy, do u mean distributor? I couldnt find the engine number on the block so maby its behind something I cant move.

On your engine photo the engine number is right behind the 2 fuel pipes that go to the warm up regulator on the front of the block. You will need to clean it up with a bit of sand paper.

I have seen an aircon pump. ;0) I was referring to the canister above the gearbox and the extra plastic thing in the vacuum line to the dissy.

Might be - someone was keen though - rear wiper, driving lights, and of course the 1600 K-Jet engine

                        Interesting one, thats for sure...

                          ......and the tail lights.

The lights and rear wiper were an option here.

                              Whats the VIN number?

What do the seats look like?

I had a 5 Door GTI that had full kjet and rear wiper and GTI seats. pommie import 1984. Same colour as that car.

If its a 79, it must be very late to have those rear lights. i have only seen one Aussie delivered Mk1 with big tail lights.
