Confuzzled with wheel choice

Ok Peeps thinking a little ahead of myself coil overs will be coming late Jan then soon after would like to get some wheels for my mach 1. Love the silly wide combo's with stretched rubber this in mind should i go 14's or 15's ?Now im on a budget (wife, mortgage aircooled projects) was thinking about steelies but by the time i cough up the 200 the wreckers want for them and the added cost of widening i could probably justify Mags right so 8's in the rear and 6 or 7's up front with some stupid dish.Where should i be lookin toyota sprinter sites ,import them from the US???? i know you have to pay to play but the less the better

Look at some mags off a Gemini.

RWD offset, cheap, alot around.

I stil think some 8" steelies would be nice as though

gemi wheels don't fit straight on. you'll need studs and hub centric rings, as well as shavin the front caliper slightly.

I'm sure you could get steelies cheaper than 200 bucks off ebay as well. The bonus with widened steelies is choice of widths and offsets, which will be pretty important for you, given how low you want to go.

Different offset wheels are more difficult to find (most are a set of 4 the same size) cause we generally fit into the FWD jap offsets bracket etc (generally) You could search through sprinter forums, but be weary of negative and really low offsets, imo, they dont look good (too much poke, like 2"s)

14's will get you that little bit lower than 15's too. (given both wearing low profile tyres & not worrying about keeping stock rolling dia.)

Also consider tyre options before settling on a size. as you want to make sure you can get a nice small tyre that wont cost the world before deciding on a size

Will ring the tyre shop 2 morro thinking 165/60 for 14's or 165/50 on 15's on 7'' and 8'' rims

165/60 14's is probably to much sidewall.

I think toyota yaris, suzuki swift and maybe holden barina's have 15" 4x100, although would need centre bore widened a bit.

keep your eye out for various rims though, never know what you might find.

if it's ultimate fitment you're after custom widening is the best option... as long as fitment and awesome dish is more important to you than rim design.

this fella http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/fo...ad.php?t=13227 sells sportmax stuff which comes in 4x100 with a large centre bore. some nice new designs there too.... infact those equip copys are sick and the mesh style too... damn i wish i had the coin lol may need a spacer and guard mods to fit 15x8 +25 though.

imo, you'd need a spacer approx 5-7mm, to clear coilovers (not including tyre) on the front, and the rear wouldn't be an issue. I'd have a spacer on the back to even the poke up though. stretched tyres and rolled (even maybe pumped) gaurds are a must.

I don't know whether the back of the wheel would clear the brake caliper on the front though. generally a small spacer would clear that though, but you wouldn't know till you tried the wheel on.

that's the prob hey. untill you actually have the wheel and try it on it's so hard to know just what issues could pop up. if you're in WA you might be able to check them out. or if anyone in WA with a mk1 is willing to try one out. just tell the dude if they fit you'll let the vw community know and his eyes will turn into dollar signs and let you try em out.

i picked up a set of ex-corolla 15" 4x100 steelies from a dude up here in Bris for $10 a corner. top condition. i had centre bore milled to 57mm for $50. u could have the offset changed, or widen them at same time as having centre bore adjusted, possibly saving you some coin.

i had to grind the callipers a little to make them fit up front without any offset change. let me know if you would like his details - i think i have his card somewhere, altho with shipping you might be better looking locally.

thats one of the coolest audis ive ever seen! theres a place over here in nz that do good retro wheels www.arrowwheels.co.nz im looking at gettin the "retro" set for my gti when its done

Think i'll stay on the hunt locally for now .There is also an Ozzy tyres locally and i know the guy so may even look into some sprinter rims
