i am looking at getting some personalised number plates but cant decide what colour. i only want either white on black or black on white. I am leaning towards black letters on white just because the bumpers are black now and the black ones might be too much. what do u think would suit the best?
Go the old skool route...white on black, they can't be beat. My current Cabby's plates, which were originally issued in blue on white (standard issue) look so much better in white on black...judge for yourself:
does Victoria have Euro style plates? although looks like you have the original plates, I would keep those, I love seeing old cars with original plates

i reckon look for some standard issue plates from your era of the car, but do them custom like i did, i got standard issue period plates but the obvious GLS-077 i also took into account what the numberplate began with at that year, in 1977 the most common letter on the standard numberplates started with either I or J.... my G is like 2 years younger but i compensated by having the "GLS"
In 1977, reflective green-on-white plates were introduced, beginning at AAA-000 and running to FZZ-999. These bore the insert Victoria - Garden state at the bottom of the plate. In the early nineties, it was discovered that the reflective properties of many number plates in the range from AAA to ERZ, and principally the C series
i am pretty sure after some investigating that mine are standard issue when the car was first registered. i dont like the colour of them though. does anyone know if you can have your plates reissued to u in another color if you were to lose them?

Lawny,
Your plates are from 1993/4...I bought a Suby. in Sept. '94 and because it had previously had personalised plates, new, current plates were fitted (and later stolen..but tha's another storey!) FOR-283, so your plates have either been re-issued or the car re-registered at some time in '93/'94...
being an '81, my guess is your car would have been the last of the AAA's or early BBB's, as plate issue was a bits slower in those days !

you are correct, vicroads have just informed me that the color is correct but the vehicle was first registered in vic with theses number plates in 93'.
The plate range in 81' was from AZL000 - BGS000 with the white background green writing. i think i would keep the colour as is and maybe change the letter combo, they charge $200 for that or i could keep the same letters and change the colors which is only $100.
The white lettering on black will look great against the green, just do that. Please! We can't get white on black tin plates in the ACT so I need to live through you, haha.

one of the advantages of being an old (young in early 40's) fart...
go with white on black...you've now seen mine in the flesh Mark, and even the winning Mk 1 on Sunday had 'C' reg in white on black plates, so just spend the $100 on your existing and go ol' skool
