hey guys are ppl still buying mk1's ive got a few for sale and noone seems to be interested, are mk1s going into a slow period again ??
you would think with the fuel price these zippy little cars would be coming back around over the big holdens etc ?

i dunno mate, i dont think that many people are into them any more, alot of people just wanna get the newer cars now?... you have some real minters too bad i've already got one!

I think people buy Mk1's now days for the coolness factor and nostalgic driving experience, not for their good fuel economy (I am guilty of this). In the eyes of the beholder a 2 door Mk1 is cooler than a 4 door.

id have one for each look...rat look, euro , racer blah blah blah...
id get asmany mk2 2 doors (3door) as i could too, and a huge ware house to hold them in....*SNAP* back to reality ...... i think the problem is most ppl havent got the money theese days to trow at an older car and make it look like that picture it in their dreams, lol. most guys/ girls who do build their mk1's are deafinatly passionate about them and usuallygive up allot of things to get there . . . . . ciggarettes and alcohol dont make theese things happen too quick, haha.

No, it's nothing to do with fuel ecomony.

Doesn't matter which way you look at it - the MkI is an old car.
Don't get me wrong - I like them, but you have to spend buckets on them to get them to a good standard. It is possible - just look at TassieGTI and Valver, but you have to be pretty determined.

Most people think that you're better off starting with a later model, as they are better base car to begin with. The other thing is that if you look around, you can get parts for MkII's and later models much easier than you can MkI's, particularly if you're talking performance parts.

The main advantage of the MkI is the light weight. The later models (even the MkIIs) put on a fair bit of weight....
Also as has been observed, finding a good one is getting much harder.

Now, if someone has a good clean rust free pre-June '76 3 door, let me know

Eventually people will want them down the track when there all gone. Dad was telling me how he had a 21 window delux split screen kombi, It wasn't in the best condition but was complete, He could barely give it away in the mid 80's nowadays every aircooled enthuist is looking for one, i saw one in imaculate condition for sale for 50,000, dunno if they got it though.

Having owned 2 3doors prior to my mk2 I love them to bits, although it's kind of slipping, the mk2 look has really grown on me. I wouldn't mind doing a full resto on one when and if i have the time/garage space.

The Mk1 is my favourite Golf shape ... by a long way. If I had the smarts, the cash and the storage I would give my left nut for a mint GTI.

I bought one before christmas. Not as good to drive as previous ones I have had. The engine is very fit but the chassis lacking at present.

Some urethane and a suspension kit are required.

It rattles and bangs like my previous ones though....

im just curious bout the mk1 mk2 GTI are they zippy (compare to vr6 if u can) thnxz

Yeah, I'd say they are pretty zippy. Only a manual VR would compare on throttle response, although the VR would nail either on acceleration and top end but not handling.

Here in Europe MK1s are hard to find. In the case of an original GTi it's name a price - 10,000 euro at least for an excellent original low km example. Even ordinary mk1s that are original/good condition can sell for 4,000 euro. So if you've got a good example hang on to it! The market in Australia will come back.

Judging from #'s that called my friend who tried to sell his SC MKI......theres not many in the market at present.

Their getting very old indeed.
