  • Broken it

Yes, after two years nearly of faithful service I broke the dub for the 2nd time. First time sheared the bolts holding on the steering rack. Dont ask how I did that

Conked out today at the traffic lights, luckily coasted into a servo.

No power to fuel pump, fires up when injecting fuel straight into carb, Fires up when using seperate power to fire up the fuel pump.FP relay operational.

At the garage being sorted, hopefully back on the road tomorrow.

Been demoted in the mean-time to a

    Wait for it.

    Yellow.

    Highundies Getz

It is a sad shocking car to sit in and drive...Pure tasteless junk.

Please all pray for me , so I can yet again get back into a real car..

The lada and Hyundies are shockers. They are crap, don't dig a hole and try to justify anything different..

Could be the fuse although the fuse blowing can be a sign that the pump is on the way out.

What happens is that the as the bearings in the pump wear out the pump can sieze momentarily causing a high current draw and thus blowing the fuse.

I know this because my car came with a packet of fuses in the glovebox and a habit of blowing them mid corner at full throttle.. A new pump fixed the problem.

Thanks Peter. We ascertained the fuses are OK, however I have no battery light, but when you wiggle the key in the ignition barrel the battery ligh comes back on and it starts, apperently their is a switch in their that feeds other things which feed the pump. Thats where we are going to start first.

Mika the Getz won't do a skid, even with low treaded tyres, it just doesn't have the power.....

It does have oversteer though and going round corners you can feel the tyres sidewall flexing. Its not a nice feeling..I am used to the ligh and low dub, whcih travels corners very well, so I had to readjust my throttle foot when I got in the getz, to accomodate the crap cornerning.

                    Its a croc of S%$#@

                        Ben,

Sorry to hear the bad news. Hopefully nothing major and back on the streets soon. Let's hope it's not too expensive either.

Where are you getting car looked at?

oh dear. I have no power supply to the fuel pump in the fuel tank. Dizzie changed , relay changed, ignition switch changed still nothing, starts straight away if pump is powered by a seperate supply, however after about 15 seconds something sends a signal and turns the pump off again, thus stopping the engine. At a loss here, only option is to run a new relay and supply.

Anyone in the know how got any thoughts or ideas what this strange and frustrating problem could be ??

                              Ben-dude!

Get yourself a new fuel pump relay - HSY at Colmslie got me sorted with one. Avoid the power supply unless you are certain that the relay is OK and that the pump runs off an independent supply (pull battery out, get under the car, disconnect the power leads (to avoid blowing power supply and your new relay) and fire it up with the battery connected to a few long strands of wire, connect to pump first using at least 1 mtr of cable for each terminal of the pump, then connect to battery with you clear of the underbody of the car by wrapping earth (-) around like battery terminal and then touching + terminal with + lead without wrapping, if it buzzes you know you have a power supply issue, if it doesn't buzz - new pump perhaps and $$$(be careful not to short out and definitely DO NOT TRY if you smell fuel around the pump)

The bolt on the steering rack - mate that is a first in my books as well, jot that down to a new discovery!

Also might be a good idea to replace the ignition switch - again you might get one from HSY and they are relatively easy to replace with a few hours of focus, patience and good instructions, try the Haynes or Bentley Manuals for guidance as you need to drill out a few shear bolts.

                              Good luck mate
