  • Why does my mk1 drink like a V8.

Seems a bit odd that I put in 7.5L and it only lasted me 40km, mix of urban and highway in a 1.6L auto.
I've set up the carbie by following a manual so it idles fine out of gear but in gear its still shacky.

Any ideas on why its useing so much fuel?

take it to get it tuned, get an O2 probe up the pipe, and see what's what.

Whats the tanks size, like 40-50L? WTH is wrong with them.

          Can anyone recommend a place?

Mk 1 is a 40 litre tank. My Kjet Scirocco gets between 8.7 and 10 litres per 100 Km dependant on the position of the right foot. Its in need of a tune and has a close ratio box fitted ( 3000rpm@100 odd Km/hr )

It can be tuned for improved milage that i do know.

            1 tank full is 400 to 400+ Km .

The late Cabrio's have a 52 litre tank.

            HTH.
            Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

            Cheers,
            Grant...

Have a look at the plugs

Have a look at the color and texture of the plugs and determine if it isn't leaking fuel anywhere. It shouldn't be hard to figure out if its running rich.

Ha, I get 5km to the litre and blow more smoke than a Kenworth.

                      Time to tune for sure.

I just got the most I have ever gotten in the gti ever 232 miles! It felt good

Usually get around the 200 mile mark, which is roughly 320kms I think!

I heard of this thing called electronic fuel injection. I hear its pretty good too. I might give it a try.

since everyone else is being smart.

get a diesel. 500kms, and the tank wasn't even close to being empty!

If your after massif fuel savings then an oiler is the only way to go. Got about 1000ks to a tank in MK5 oiler and its still a good drive. Not fun but good. Now a MK5 oiler donk into a MK1 that would be be fun.
