  • the downside to diesel

    hey everyone,
yesterday i had a huge day working on the blue diesel... in my twelve hours i came up just short of completing:

engine and front suspension/drivetrain removal, replaced shocks, outer cv's, clutch and steering rack. then put everything back in.

had to make up an hour this morning but she's back together and ready for sunday.

you dont want to know what my old steering rack feels like.... cant believe i'd kept it for so long...

the diesel seems hard on parts... maybe its the way i drive

Yeah, maybe you should have done the engine mounts too. Diesels vibrate a lot especially if everything isn't even (injection, compressions etc) so you need good mounts.

The firsy quad farm bike that we had was a Polaris with a Yanmar single cylinder diesel in it. She ran for 3 weeks on a tank of diesel with everyday use but eventually literally shook herself to bits

if thats a challenge i'll be glad to ablige

brackie, my engine mounts are ok, excepthfor the main (front) one on the end of the block - its bad - but vibration isnt bad in my car at all probably since i keep the engine running nicely - its tuned well (timing) and yes the compressions are even.

funnily enough, the only part of the car that i need to do minimal maintenence to and that which is certainly most reliable - the engine!
