That fifth gear is must have if you do highway cruising at all - The GTI is actually reasonably relaxed at 110 in fifth..
More comfortable than than around town, come to think of it

Interesting Phill's comment about reverse - I have a feeling that it's reverse that plays up first when there an adjustment issue. One of these days I have to have another fiddle with my linkage - it keeps popping out...Comment

The 5 speed gearstick plate allows about 2mm more adjustment for reverse.Comment
