  • Lap Belt 90 Cabrio

    Hi,

These lap belts in the Mk I Cab, are they suitable for fixing a baby seat?

It's not a fixed over the shoulder seat belt, just the pull out lap belt. Does anyone know the right (legal and for best safety) way to do it?

    Thanks

Wouldnt say theyd be the best things to fit a baby seat...
Maybe use the lap belt at the bottom and find a harness point in the boot to hold the top of the baby seat.

A capsule, or a seat with a rigid base should be fine with an upper mounting point on the bar behind the seat.

Small kids fit in the tiny rear seat pretty well with just the seatbelt. No good for babys tho.

          Matt,

An upper mounting point? Do you mean an anchor point (I assume there would be 2 in the Mk I 90 Cabrio) or do you mean putting something extra in to keep it fixed?

Anchor points should be located on the cross member running behind the back seat between the wheel arches.

The lap belt should thread through the base of the seat, pull it all the way out, keep it fully extended until the lap belt clasp and buckle are fastened. Once you do this the belt should ratchet, thereby locking the belt to the correct size and tension.

The anchor point harness should slide through a small slot in the parcel tray behind the seat and affixed to anchor points on the cross member.

A word of warning though, when installing the roof should be down so you can access the back of the baby seat easier and feed the harness behind the seat. One trap is if it is a toddler seat and has a high back, this may catch the roof when it is put up or down.
