  • G60 1.6 or Duel 40's

    Hey all,

After doing my normal thing on a week night, scouring youtube for delicious VW's.. I came across a few G60 mk1s.. now they never interested me until today because I used to want a 16v but now that I am sticking with a Heron motor, got me thinking about it.

Does anyone know what's involved in converting a carbed 8v into a G60? I don't want massive boost but would like some fun. I also want to use VW parts, not into using toyota superchargers and so on. I want it to be relatively reliable too..

Now on the flip side, duel webers sound freaken awesome and are rather old school.

    Help

Just to make it harder... listen to the duel webers.....

You haven't lived until you hear a tuned G60 with a small pulley fitted.

It would be a very expensive thing to do, converting the 1.6. I wouldn't tackle it. I'd be hanging around Byron Bay just in case anything happened to Matt's Corrado.

Fitting a 16V would be a walk in the park.

did G60s come with KJet/CIS or Digi?

          They are digifant.

Where can you get one that is in usable condition?

There's supposed to be some in Japan, so a front cut might be around. Getting something in Australia would be nigh on impossible.

If you get one, I'll rebuild it for the cost of the bits, just to keep my hand in. Maybe even port it up a bit too.

Gavin: I already have a complete Heron sitting in the garage waiting to go into the mk1, just needs a freshen up. I just need the G60 bits or is that what you meant?

Everyone wishes they had one, few actually man up and get one. Be the man and get yourself some extra valves.

I used to love them but theres something so awesome about old school 8vs.

I am keeping the Heron. <3

You would need to lower the compression ratio. The G60 has different pistons and a solid headgasket.

Personally, having had a couple of real G60s, you are building a rod for your back.

If you go mad and do it though, you can't count on me for support.

There's just loads of different things between the G60 and the GTI motor it was developed from.

I have a mate in the USA with some Mahle pistons with a lower comp ratio (8:5.1) which he will sell to me at a pretty decent price, that with a bigger HG should hopefully allow some fun.

The only thing thats keeping me umming and arring is the converting from Carbs to Digi. Thats whats so awesome about Duel Webers.. not cheap but atleast theres not too much stuffing around.

                        reality check...

Bout the only way to tackle this would be to get a salvaged engine complete with the wiring, ecu, fuel system etc from a donor car. Otherwise it would likely be a big headache...

Cost me about $750 in freight alone to import a 1.8T engine in from the US in 2006 ( think thats when it was ? ) + the initial cost of the engine, drivetrain and import duty on top.( sorry, govt rip off ) So sourcing anything O/S is likely to cost you a good few dollars...won lotto lately...

                        Best of luck buddy
                        Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

                        Cheers,
                        Grant...
