  • Pinion teeth go snap!

    Hey guys,
I seem to have broken 3 teeth off the pinion in the diff!
The car is in the garage as at first I thought it was a CV Joint now it turns out to be the pinion in the diff

I have a thread in the wtb section and am wondering if the diff would be the same as a manual as my car is an auto. Ill be ringing as many breakers tomorrow to see if I can track down the parts.

    Any help much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Alex

    Its an auto.
    Didnt realize mate.
Got a whole tested transmission here. Yours for $500 delivered.
    Just plug in and drive.
the bits inside the box will be different auto / manual.
Or convert the car to manual. Now is the perfect time. Not hard in a Mk1.

Knew you'de have something for me Loon...
Anychance you would unbolt the diff from the box, Im on a tight budget being a student?
Ide love to convert it to a manual but just dont have the monies.
I just want to fix whats broken for now and maybe later on think about conversions.

      Cheers

the diff and transmission are all one unit. Be a mega job to strip it to pull the pinion shaft out, not to mention the $$$'s you would be up for to install it in your current transmission.
As Matty has suggested, best time to switch over to a manual trans and ditch the boat anchor, oops, sorry Auto...
        Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

As much as ide love to switch to manual and ditch the slow, very annoying auto...The parts needed will be more than $500 for sure, manual box, pedal box, steering rack, starter motor, cables, time, money etc...

Come and collect the auto if you want it cheaper.
like roccoding said its a massive job to dismantle the transmission.
Just bolt another one in and be done with ity.

Yeh..I didnt realise the work needed to split it, easier to bolt in another one like you say. I was ready to come down to you Matt, but Jaffa from the forums has an offer i couldnt refuse and ill be heading down there this weekend to Canberra to pick it up.

Ive been meaning to take a drive up to your place for a while,
Hopefully when I put in the new box!

              Cheers
