  • Finally found a MkFun!!

After a long time searching I've finally found myself a mk1!!
left a deposit this morning after a good three hour drive through the country

From what i know its a two owner car been owned by a nice old fella out past northam for the last four or five years, 150xthousand ks, no rust to be seen so far (had a good check under the carpets door sills and pillars) nice black interior, chrome bumpers and still on its original plates. Paint looks great and should come up real nice with a good cut an polish. Engine pulls hard and the box was as smooth as my mk4

plans at this stage is to slam her on coilovers, possibly do some whitewalls, some iron cross headlights and hopefully get my hands on a roofrack in the area.

other than that throw some ideas at me

    Picking her up saturday

    can
    not
    wait!

GolfMan- couldnt spot any rust through it today mate had a good look around so finger crossed its nice and dry. will get it up on the hoist over the weekend and take a good look underneath

camox- I didnt check the paint badge to be honest but i sure am happy with the colour. it started first shot from cold today and took it for a good long drive while it was up there, was actually quite surprised with how nippy it was. the old bloke said hed done the trip to perth in it a fair few times so once he gets it to there its just the home stretch back to my place. roll on saturday

            congrats looks pretty clean.

            can't wait for some pics.

can't say i'm too keen on the white walls, but different strokes for different folks.

nice work mate. Always nice to get a specimen that has been cared for properly, especially as they hit 30+ years of age.

Give the girl the respect she deserves and make sure any changes aren't permanent. These are indeed rare to find in good nick, and who knows it might be a collectable one day soon.

              Enjoy the new toy

yeah Jarrad still in two minds about the white walls, mainly for the reason that you never really see it on a golf or at least i havent seen it (there could be good reason for this) and also because i think it would set the retro look of the car off nicely with those and a good roof rack and a bit of dumpage. Wouldnt be keen enough to buy proper white walls just some flappers to see how it looks cant hurt, failing that i wouldnt mind a set of ronal turbos or something a bit different like these

cheers paulie, have been looking around for the right one for a long time now so cant wait to get started. As you said all changes will be reversible and all parts kept in a safe corner so she can go back to stock if need be

far too excited tonight I'm like a kid at christmas, couldnt wipe the grin off my face the whole ride home!

have a look through this thread:

I'm pretty sure there are one or two mk 1's with white walls, if not, I'll try and find them later on. (i've got over 700 shots of mk 1's, so it could take a while )
