Widened Steel Rim Offsets

Ok so i'm keen on getting a set of mk3 steel rims widened now that i have 2 full sets.

Now i'm not really looking for pros and cons or pricing or anything like that, just interested to know what the perfect width and offset would be, with minimal guard modification (lipping of course, rolling maybe, flares NO)

so far i'm feeling 14x8 +15 and +20

8" is a pretty big wheel.

with an ET15, it'll poke by a good 10-15mm., and if you want to be low, the arches will def have to be rolled. (lips folded that is)

7" will fit easily. an ET25, should be good for flushness allround.

If you are getting coilovers it'll be very hard to make an 8" sit flush. (i'm guessing you're getting coils ) this is cause the coils of the actual coilover take up more room than the standard spring+shock combo.

From memory, 8" at ET20 is about the highest (most tuck) before you start hitting the coilover. (inner clearance issues)

yeah i'm familliar with that calculator

so you're saying that 8inch means you have to have +20 or lower, but with +15 it'll be outside the guards, interesting.

yeah hottuning coilovers looks like the go at the moment. will definatly be lipping the guards.

if i were you i'd forget 8" wide rims - it'll be just way too impractical.... thing is... like jarred said, coilovers will give you less room on the front (maybe a little more on the back ~5mm) and this means you'll be doing things like setting your camber to something less than desirable on the front, having little suspesnion travel before you hit guards etc.

for a practically driveable vehicle, 7" will work. offset of no more than ET30 will allow you some camber adjustment on the front so you can still run some neg if you want, and if you roll the guards you'll have no probs with clearance.

you could probably get away with wider on the back in a practical situation, but its impractical to have wheels you cant rotate front to back....

Owner says its et20 all round and i didnt see anything in his build thread that says theres any other mods to change offset but maby i missed something, its on bags if that make a difference.
