I had a look around for the superpro ones, wouldent they be more expensive than the OS ones anyway?

Just did the ring around, here goes... (all prices are for single bushing)

SuperPro Bushings (I rang Super Cheap Auto)

      $34.95 Front Control Arm Lower - Front Bushing SPF0647K 1 2B,2T
      $29.95 Front Control Arm Lower - Rear Bushing SPF0648K 1 2B
      $17.95 Front Engine Steady Bushing SPF0527K 1 1B
      $23.95 Front Steering Rack&Pinion Mount Bush-Manual SPF1932K 1 2B + Caddy 88-92 / Cabriolet 80-93 / Jetta 79-84 /
      $18.95 Front Sway Bar Inner Chassis Mount Bushing SPF0382-_ _K 1 2B Measure bar diameter 15mm & 21mm available
      $24.95 Front Sway Bar To Lower Control Arm Bushing SPF1934-15K 1 2B + Cabriolet 80-93/Jetta,Vento 79-84/Scirocco,Corrado
      $35.95 Rear Beam Axle Pivot Bushing SPF1555K 1 2B,2T
$18.95 Rear Sway Bar Inner Beam Mount Bushing SPF0364-_ _K 1 2B Measure bar diameter 20.4,23,24,25mm available
$19.95 Rear Sway Bar To Lower Control Arm Bushing SPF0363-_ _K 1 2B Measure bar diameter 20,22,23,24mm available
NOTE: $8.95 Freight charge for any order (no matter what quantity)

Doesn't seem to be as many engine mounts as in the US kit, but the sway bar bushings missing from the US kit are there...

I don't think it will be cheaper.. remember all of those prices are for single bushes and for most of them (except motor mount) require two.

how hard are these things to install?
do you need special tools to press them in. i've heard of people using drill presses. is it possible to do without one?

The red ones are very easy, they're in two parts.

The superpro ones take a bit of convincing but brute force and ignorance will win through.

Getting the old ones out on the other hand......

The front control arm bushes take some pressing to get out, and it can be a little awkward to balance the A-arm in the press too. But it doesn't matter if you butcher the bushes in the process, you just have to get them out. The red poly ones go in easy. I honestly can't remember doing the rear pivots, I think its much the same as the front a-arm ones. They are the hardest 2 suspension bushes.

what about the engine mounts and steering bushes do they more or less require you pulling the engine out?

You can get the mounts out without completely taking the motor out but the drivers side one is a bit of a pain. You have to lower the motor on that side from memory. If you're putting the poly inserts into the drivers or passenger side mounts you may have to replace the current mounts at the same time and that involves more pressing.
