  • Help with engine code.

Ive got an audi 8v engine with the engine code SD.

Does anyone have any specs on it, displacement, what car it came out of, power it produces etc etc?

An internet search has given me mixed results. The most consitant result is that its a 1.9L from a 1986-1988 Audi 80, can someone confirm this and did it come with carbies or injection and what power did it put out?

          Yup, 1.9 from 88 Audi 80.
It has the bigger intake ports, so you will need a Mk3 inlet manifold, or make an adaptor plate.

The engine is in a mk1 and runs like a dream, i was shocked because the rest of the car is a POS.
Its got a webber carbie on it and im not sure about the manifold or an adapter plate as i havnt really looked, im not familiar with carbies so i dunno what kind of webber it is either, i suspenct it one of them down draft passat deal-ies.
Ill get pics if i can and maby someone will be able to tell me more.

The engine drives a mk2 gti 'box aswell so the 1.6auto in the 3door will be thrown out and replaced with the 1.9l 5speed. Will have pics of the whole project a lot later.

            Cheers guys!

I had an 1.9L SD in my mk1 and just replaced it with a kjet Gti 1.8, it didn't have injection holes though?

I ran a down draft and a side draft carby (weber+passat mani, then later a dellorto+lynx mani) with no problems.

                    Carby should be stamped etc..

                      Here are a few pics:

It has a wierd thing between the intakes for cyl 3 and 4 that looks like another intake hole. Its not blocked off on the out side but when i poke around inside i dont feel that extra hole.

Would they be an improvement to what ive got?

(EDIT - My prev post was ambiguous weber was downdraft, dellorto sidedraft - sorry!)

Hmm.. it looks diff to my 32/36 DGAV (EDIT - air intakes from filter are square on mine i think), but definitely looks like it has a water choke... Manifold looks similar too..

                        EDIT - like this
                        http://media.photobucket.com/image/d...G_1443.jpg?o=5

Carby should be stamped with the model number somewhere!
I'd check that out before doing anything else.

If it does turn out you need it, i've still go the weber + passat manifold + airfilter setup (payment just fell through abt 5mins ago!)

i would hazard a guess that that's not a 32/36, but perhaps a 24/24 maybe. a similar downdraught design though.

i had a 32/36 DGV on my old 1.6, went good. should be a nice size on a 1.9 with a zorst.

that carb could be anything - seems to me its a vacuum operated secondary so a little more modern than a DGAV type carb, could be japanese even (or did you say it actually had weber written on it?).

that manifold is very interesting - looks like it could be from a single point injection car, like is run on mk3 CL's and SEAT's, but i'm not going to say thats what it is for sure. its definately not the passat TS manifold though. no way - thats why that adaptor plate has been made up to take the carb (which does have a DGV style bolt pattern.

so that lump must be a torque monster... nice

Look around the rectangular base of the carby where it bolts up, there will be a slightly raised area with some small numbers/letters stamped there.
                              Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??
