Hi guys new to the forum just having a look how you do it Aus style, as i am thinking of moving to aus with my 81 gti, i had to check out the dubs first
Do you guys find it hard getting gti parts and stuff down there? how costly is it to get them sent from the uk and germany? if anyone has any experience of doing that?
Looking forward to getting to know you all and helping out with gti parts if i can?
    Thanks
    Rich

Hi mk1rich. Welcom e to the forum! Good to have you here. I hope you enjoy it. We are a friendly bunch here.
We didn't get mk1 GTIs but there are a fair few imported ones over here these days. Some parts are hard to find. Golf Loon and some others import parts from over there at times. Would be good to see you and your GTI here!
    Cheers, Andrew

        Welcome!

G'day and welcome. There's been much discussion about importing cars and parts on this forum. Just do a search using "import" as your key word and all will be revealed.

Cool, as long as i am not stuck for a ready supply of gti bits i am happy will get some pics of my ride up asap, i love the amount of pre 79-80 small bumper mk1s you have out there, that will be the first thing i buy when i get there!
Was the G60 an offical model in aus? as me and my mate produce a supercharger kit based on the eaton charger for all vw engines except the vr6 and rely on quite a few stock G40 & G60 parts like gaskets and stuff
          Thanks for the welcome

You need to sort yourself a deal with GSF Rich. None of that stuff here. G60s officially got to Japan I believe but not any further.

Loads of good manufacturing/fabricating places in all the major cities. Being so far from the rest of the world the Aussies seem to make their own gear rather than relying on imports.

Cool i Love tenby in the summer, didnt make it to edition 38 done international which was crap as usual, and a few others here and there, deffo going to edition 38 in 07 as its the end of august then hoping to go to Aus at the end of september. if anyone seriously wants to start getting euro stuff shipped out let me know,i would be more than interested in sourcing the goods this end, as i was thinking if i can do it once or twice from this end by the time i come down my mate can source from the uk and get anything i want over?
I have 2 kr motors in the shed just inconvenient they are the other side of the world for now.

Gday Rick, welcome to the Forum. I started off as a Swansea Boy, now living in Sydney

Bring goodies with you especially a few bolt on supercharger kits. I`ll have one to suit a kr engine please.

Bring a sweet GTI, or a VR6 Corrado, there are lots of early Golfs, but nothing brought here between 1980 and 1990!!

Hope you stick around, once again, welcome

Thats cool, i work in Swansea, well morriston in Morganite as an engineer, so i am hoping to get a transfer over to the morgan carbon plant in Sydney (do you have any idea where that is in Sydney golfloon?) we have never done a supercharged diesel before but its just forced induction and the 1600 derv block was the same as the petrol anyways so all my brackets and everything will fit just a bit of jigging about with the pipework, sounds like a winner
