Whats the story behind this one?

I didn't know that there where swallowtail GTi's, would be worth a bit.

Technically its not a GTI. This car has never been road registered, it was pulled of the assembly line and setup for racing. Has some mad direct injection setup and a gnarly 1.6 and 4 speed.

It is an ex Bathurst racecar and there is footage on here of it catching fire one year and it hit the wall another.

Be good to see it out on the track where it belongs.

We are testing a new HD in-car camera system in this car on Saturday. Once edited it will be posted up in the Volks TV section of Volks Culture. Will let you guys know when to come and have a look.

Check the first video out of the Super Sprint:

I shot a lot of footage of the Bathurst Golf, both exterior and in-car, so I'll edit up a second clip focusing on that soon.

                  Cheers

Thanks for taking the time to take great pics and post them. I really enjoyed this and also the mk3 a little while back, it's great to see local motorsport VW's.

That mechanical injection set up is awesome!! Any ideas if that is based on the standard k-jet? If so, how do they regulate the fuel without the air flow meter?

Completely different to K jet. Its Kugelfisher, Lucas or one of the other timed injection set ups of that era. Google and read.

There were a good few development cars that VW ran with the Kugelfisher (sp), Twin engined rocco and golf 2 comes to mind.
                            Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

                            Cheers,
