  • Caught Police Attention...

    Hey everyone,

got picked on the other day buy the police cause my wheels stick out past the guards...
just wanted to know would a set of GTi wheel arch flares possibly solve this problem (or else make it less obvious)?
The wheels only stick out about 3/4 or an inch from the guard.

oh also wanted to know what the thread size is for mk1 wheel nuts (couldn't find it in the manual).

    cheers,
    Michael

    * not helping you get flares - but Tasmanian Police have to be some of the most relaxed in the country when it comes to defects.

you could use GTI arches to hide some of the poke. They wouldn't cover up all of it, but maybe add about 1/2 an inch to the gaurd depending how you put the arches on imo.

I'm sure Andrew has one lying around his shop that he would let you try on.

What did the police actually say? any defects or official warnings?

dunno if GTI trims would cover them, and the bolt you need are 12mm x 1.5

You are welcome to see how much the flares would cover Micheal. The front guards are easy to pump out a bit.
            Rears would need flaring.
I saw a hotrod on saturday without any guards on it. AndI have seen it running arround for a while like that..Still, laws are laws...

Nah they didn't say anything, just said I may want to think about changing the wheels or making sure the wheels were within the guards. They were pretty nice about it tho, some others may not be tho lol

Front guards are fine cause they're only 6.5's just the rears that hang out, I'll try and swing by later on andrew and see how it goes.

cheers dom inneed of some locker nuts

my general view of police is thay they are humans too. Show them respect, and they in turn will show you the respect you deserve.

on the other hand, show them a bit of your lip, and they will probably show you a ticket of some kind (which is probably what you would deserve)
