Is bending rear stub axles common? we bent one at a rally on the weekend which gave us 10mm toe out The beam was undamaged To fix it I machined it in the Lathe between centers The alignment is ok now but wodering if I should start looking for spares Thoughts?

I haven't ever bent one. You would think that if it was to bend, the wheel brgs would chop out as they are a lot thicker on the flange end. It is exremely hard to detect a bend in the rear beam arm but I suspect that is probably where it has bent. Doesn't take much of a bump to move them as they are hollow, unlike the hardened steel stub. Thats my thoughts.....Par 6 Golf GTI. Coilovers, BBS CH Wheels, APR'd

Good call Andrew. I`ve never seen a bent stub axle. The beams do bend though. I`ve got a couple here if you get stuck.

Stub axle
Thanks for your replies the reason I asked is because the golf manual I have has a page on "checking for bent stub axle " showing a picture of a stub(off the car) square and a vernier I thought it was strange too hence my question
