  • Severe oil leak between driveshaft and tranny flange

I noticed large amount of oil under the Mk1 after I took her for a drive, the leak will stop after a while if I don't drive the car.

I see the leak come from the tranny flange and the passenger side drive shaft, is there any rubber seal inside there ? is it hard to replace.

You replaced the speedo cable last weekend. Did you make sure to swap the "O" ring onto the other cable??

Andrew, the leak was there before I swap the cable. I'll check if the leak come from the speedo cable. I didn't know there is any o-ring

There should have been an O ring on the outside of the metal sleeve that fits into the gearbox mate. To do the driveshaft flange seal is, undo the inner cv bolts and hang the shaft out of the way, carfully pick out the rubber plug on the inside of the flange and you will see a circlip. Remove that and the spacer behind it and the flange will come off. The seal is an easy job to replace.
        Good luck friend,
        Andrew
