  • Early westy front?

Hey all, I really like the look of early westy front ends on Mk1s

these ones if anyone doesn't know the differnce between early and late ones.

Does anyone have one for sale? I am guessing its just the rad support, grill and obviously lights that are different?

I like the look of them too. For history sake, what's the story behind them? I remember reading an article in PVW about the Westmoreland design coming out of the Westmoreland (in America) VW factory around the early 80's as a "revamp" on the Mk1 front-end... I guess that means it was a US-only release?
    Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
    Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

Fat chance finding one of them in oz i Reckon cam..

Everyone on the tex gets all giddy when some one finds and early westy, so I reckon they must be a bit rare.

try some of the rabbit spare parts places, they might be able to sell you a rad support. then it's just lights and grill I believe.

        AFAIK, that's right ray.

Can't say I've ever seen one in europe, or here for that matter.

Yeah Ray, the Westy rabbit was just a US built Mk1 as it must have been costing VWoNA a pretty penny to import. The reason they have the square front is because people in the states wanted a more 'modern' looking car. The early ones look great but I don't really like the later ones.

Yeah I don't think I have much of a chance finding one here but hey, worth a try right? Just like theres <1% chance of finding a hard plastic early mk1 dashboard (hint hint to all you people )

The early ones are like my Caddy with the indicators on the outsides of the headlights.
I tried to source a rabbit GTI grill for the caddy yesterday but no luck just yet..

Are they the same as the square scirocco America ones?

I have a couple of sets of them from stateside that I will never use.

Nah, they are single headlight ones like the above green one with no bumpers and the white caddy at the top of the page.

                    are you sure Andrew??

All the American GTI's [83-84] have the indicators on the side, but 79& some 80 models had just the square lights no indicators. I believe your caddy to be 'late westy'

This is just what I've picked up from vortex

So I just knocked this up on dubmodder..

Tell me what you think.. It would look a lot nicer IRL.

black looks better than the yellow.

yellow suits the euro 'look' more imo.

Did they have a similar westy front for the mk2?

I remember my mate had a mk1 jetta front on his mk1 and it also adds a different flavour to the table. this was back in 1992!

You will Probably have more luck finding that front end than the westy....
dont have a pic of it here......but it looked real nice.

Both look good but yeah, the one without the indicators look $$$. The yellow one you mocked up in Dubmodder wouldn't be too far out from the ideal modified Mk1 I would have!
