Headlights Gone Nuts

Hi all, havent posted in a while as i've been working in North Queensland the last four months and only got home a week ago.

Since then i've twice noticed the left headlight and taillight on the cabby has been on when the car is parked with lights switched off. I put the key in turn the switch a couple of times and they all go out again.

Where should i start looking for problems? Switch, relay, what else??

U prob have the indicator lever in the up position, makes the park lights on that side function when the Ign is switched off. Something to do with european spec's i believe..

Anyone confirm that ???

Correct Roccodingo.
Leave car parked with LH indicator on - take key out. LH parking lights stay on, just like RH ones will stay on when RH indicator is left on when parked and with key out. When key is put in and turned to the "on" position, then the indicator will "blink". Plently of reference to this issue elsewhere.

I thought only Mk3/45/6 does this, now I'm wrong, 34 years old Mk1 already had this feature

I've said it before, but almost every VW has had this feature starting from about 1967.

Some markets and models varied. I've had this on feature on Type3s as well as my MK1s.

This function has been around for decades and is also called a wink.

It is pretty standard on european cars. Opel/Vauxhall's and the like have them as do German Marques.

A bit of a safety feature when parking your car.
