  • Automatic idle when cold

    Afternoon all,

My golf is a stock 1.6 8v with 3sp auto and all the pollution gear still intact. When I start the car I baby it for a few minuets and it is fine in Park and Neutral. However, when I put her into Reverse or Drive, she will stall. Is this something to do with the idle adjustment on the carb (standard solex) or something with the transmission itself?

I am having to put it into Drive and put a ton of pressure on the brakes with around 2000rpm in revs to stop it stalling for around 30 seconds to 1 min. Even after driving for a few mins it will still stall at the lights and I have to pop it into neutral. A few other people have this issue and I would like to find out a solution for the greater good!

    Thanks all

    Turn up the idle.

Autos had a different sized auto jet, would be worth seeing whether the carby has been changed for a manual one.

The pollution gear can also wreak havoc, the reason most of em have had it removed.
