  • Weber DMTL Problem?

    Hey guys,

On my golf 1 i ve a dmtl weber carb.
The adjustment is not my favorit thing so I need some help.

When I throttle a little(only one valve will open from the carb) its not running propper. When i throttle hard the car goes like hell(The second valve will open as well). Drives verry good. But can't drive like full throttle and then no throttle on the highway and in the city it's even more anoiing. So what can be the problem.

I gave it a clean, will replace it tomorrow, but if its not working, what to do?

I live near sydney now, can you recommand a good place/mechanic? In Maroubra is a vw place on anzac pde i saw. Good place?

And can I find a electrical map from the golf on this site?

I hope I can drive this car properly soon

    g'day mate, welcome.

i'm not sure what a DMTL is.... i'm guessing from youre decription its like a DGV/DGAV?

post up a pic of your carb if you can... this will help people identify.

is the second throttle body activated by vacuum or by mechanical linkage?

My geuss is it's either poorly tuned, or you've a small vaccum leak possibly.

Have you any more background on the carby on this engine? is it only recently installed? or is this a problem it's only recently developed?

[QUOTE=Jarred;285044]My guess is it's either poorly tuned, or you've a small vaccum leak possibly.

Agree with Jarred, it's possible that the carb has not been jetted correctly and may still have it's original jets from where ever the carb came from prior to installation on the MK1. Quite a common problem is if the car idles OK but stumbles, or starts to die as soon as you part open the throttle, the accelerator jets could be blocked or not big enough (both problems show up the same - your engine dies when you part open the throttle). If you don't have much experience with carburettors, best solution is to find a good mechanic how sound be able to find and fix the problem with out too much hassle.

That's a great elaboration on what I first said, and true in my opinion. I had a DGV on my 1.6 in the mk 1, and while it wasn't perfect I was able to tune it & get it running an reliable.

The more info you can give about the carb the better we can help.

If it's blocked pump jets, you will have a stumble on throttle progression, but the engine will run fine on a constant throttle. Most likely from what you're saying, it's not pump jets.

My guess would be a vacuum leak. Get some aerostart or start ya bastard and spray it around the sealing faces of the manifold (carbie to manifold, manifold to head) with the engine running (idling). If the RPM increases, that's where your leak is.

            OR..

It's a blocked idle jet/s. If you're not very familiar with carbies, take it to a pro (and make sure it's someone who has good carbie experience).

Hey people, that are really a lot of responses!!

Thnx. Just cleaned the carb and adjusted the idle. Its running pretty ok nog. Now i' looking for a good place adjust the valves and make sure thats all allright. Maybe they can finetune the carb as well.

Found the info over the carb on the internet. Will add the picture later on.

The ekectricts of the car are not that nice as well .... so thats the next project.

I'll make you some pictures guys and maybe you can help me out

Is there something like a meeting in Sydney coming up? That would be nice.

              grtz,

Sorry can't really help on the carb front apart from Redex and I doubt that helps but it worked wonders on mine. As for electrics a Haynes or Bentley manual will have a full diagram in or you could have a mooch around this :
