  • My fantastic find (warning: graphic content)

    So it has rained for days in Sydney and the old MK1 fogs up like no one elses business.

    On Friday night my son left the rear window open 1 inch and then I had 2 inches of water in the back footwell on Sat morning.

    So I decided to take out the carpet to dry it, and along the way one thing led to another and it resulted in the whole carpet being removed, and then the underlay. I am happy to report that I have found that I have more work to do than I first anticipated...

    So there is a fair amount of water been in there. The large plug was MISSING and the overnight rain on Saturday night has shown me where the water is penetrating from the firewall.

      that looks not so good mate I think you have a lot to do with the rust in the next days.

      But thank your son for left open the windows, otherwise you wouldn't seen it and in a few month you may would sit with your bottom on the road

      Cheers
      Mario

                        So my plan of attack, considering I have 0 welding skill or equipment will be;

                        Find the main source of the firewall leak,
                        Seal that leak,
                        Make a plate for the hole on the floor and silicone down,
                        Find the penetrations that go throuugh the floor and silicone them from the outside,
                        Take an adult ed course in welding 101.

                        Car is SO noisy without any sound deadening or Carpets...

                              There's only one way to learn!

                              I didn't know how to weld either before last week. I still wouldn't call myself an expert, but it got the job done!
